The Resident Services Center is the heart of Hillcrest creativity. The “RSC” provides a general activity room equipped with kitchen facilities, Wood Shop, Greenhouse, and the Mary Dadisman Sewing Center. The RSC is the home for other resident interests such as a Lapidary Shop and Arts Studio. Hillcrest has three vegetable gardens reserved exclusively for residents with one located adjacent to the RSC.
The Aquatic and Fitness Center, located at 2700 A Street, is a 10,500 square foot state-of-the-art fitness center equipped with pool and spa, exercise room, clinic, and therapy room. The Center has various types of exercise equipment and programs. Our programs facilitate staying active and managing better health, maintaining independent living, functional fitness at all levels, social stimulation and support, and enhancing the quality of life. Programs and classes include a preemptory Personal Fitness Evaluation conducted by our Wellness Director, followed by tailor-made exercise program recommendations to each resident.
Arthritis friendly pool programs, varying levels of aerobic intensity classes, strength and balance exercises, and flexibility/range of motion exercises are conducted in our beautiful state of the art indoor pool.
Hillcrest also provides handicap lift access to the pool and spa with a commercial pool lift.
Our fitness center is equipped with the latest in treadmills, Nu-Step recumbent steppers and other equipment to enhance the cardiovascular fitness program. The resistance/strength training and cardiovascular conditioning programs offer use of the equipment, free weights and use of stability balls. Classes are led by trained and certified instructors. Tai Chi and Yoga are wonderful for increasing strength, coordination, improving balance and enhancing mental acuity. The Chair Dance program is designed to improve circulation and address joint range of motion and overall flexibility. Yoga-based Stretch & Flex, our Better Balance program to improve balance and posture, and Core Mat classes specifically targeting the muscles of the trunk.
Ask any resident, staff member, or guest about the dining experience at Hillcrest and you’ll hear them rave about the culinary wizardry of Executive Chef Christian Laire. Born in Lyon, France, the soft-spoken chef knew from the time he was a young boy that he wanted to be a chef. Educated in the French system of culinary education known as Culinary Aptitude, Chef Laire worked in several restaurants, including his own, and in many different countries.
Chef Laire welcomed the opportunity to join Hillcrest. He enjoys that his work is mission-driven and has purpose. He has a wonderful relationship with the residents; he sees them every day, they give him feedback and he can see the results of his efforts in the kitchen.
Chef Laire’s philosophy on cooking mirrors Hillcrest’s concept of total health and wellness; “Balance is an important aspect of cooking and of life. As a chef, you need not overpower the natural flavor of your food but allow its true taste to come through. Recipes are a guideline but a true chef cooks by taste, color, scent, and the look of the food as well. The transformation of ingredients into a meal that makes people happy is magical.”
The Meeting House at Hillcrest is a perfect venue to host mixers, business gatherings, retirement parties, luncheons, holiday celebrations, weddings, and graduation parties.
